How did I get here?
I came to OpenLab in 2011, before it became OpenLab, seeking refuge from a creeping banality I was feeling at the time, after a decade in healthcare. I had gone back to school—a grad student at OCAD—so naturally I was questioning everything, like why are some of the most important things in society so poorly designed and whose needs are they serving anyway? My colleagues were asking similar questions, so OpenLab quickly became this sandbox for hair-brained ideas and unfettered creativity. Needless to say, I’ve been here ever since, and in that time, this place has become the launchpad for things like The Local and the NORC Innovation Centre (as well as the graveyard for an assortment of ill-advised projects).
